Kevin Sleep - Lighting Designer
Kevin graduated with a degree in geography and then put it to good use by working in theatre lighting. In 1985 he moved into lighting design and was resident designer and technical manager at the Donmar Warehouse for two years before turning freelance in 1987. His West End credits include The House of Bernarda Alba, Up on the Roof, Fascinating Aida, The Foreigner, Eartha Kitt in Concert, Blues in the Night, Prin, and Other People’s Money.
He has frequently lit shows for the Lyric Hammersmith, the Royal Lyceum Edinburgh, the Crucible Sheffield and the Royal Exchange, Manchester including Little Love, Light of Day, The Crucible, Ghosts, Slab Boys, Little Women, Taming of the Shrew, Hiawatha and The Wizard of Oz. Other work includes The Winter’s Tale (Royal Exchange), Caesar & Cleopatra and The Last Waltz (Greenwich), Downfall, Sore Throats, and Death and the Maiden (Royal Court), The Secret Rapture (Bristol Old Vic), and The Norman Conquests, Death of a Salesman, Jane Eyre and Dominion of Fancy all for the Pitlochry Festival Season.
Opera work includes the Wexford Opera Festival, the première of Greek in Munich and Edinburgh and then at the Coliseum for the ENO, Rigoletto (Welsh National Opera small-scale tour), Eugene Onegin (Scottish Opera Go Round), the première of 63 Dream Palace in Munich and Pilgrim’s Progress for the RNCM Manchester.
Kevin is currently Head of Lighting for English National Opera.
